Daisy’s first name and her maiden name have been spelled many ways. Our family tradition says her maiden name was “Maddox”; it is also reported as “Mattox” and “Mattax”.

Her given name has been reported as Ardesia, Adesia, Adicia, Ardisia. The 1860 census lists her as "Adicia"; the 1880 census spells it "Adecia", the variant we are using. It must have been an unusual name, that most people simply guessed at. No wonder she was remembered by a nickname!
